Jim Dornan has 20 years of political, legislative, management, administrative, media and fundraising experience. He has gained this experience from running Congressional races from Florida to Washington state, working on Capitol Hill for six different Members of Congress and holding various other high level positions in state and federal government.
He currently serves as Senior Vice President where he specializes in Appropriations clients such as Erie County (PA), the Center for Jewish History (NY) and Mariner Lighthouse (FL). He also has recently served as political strategist and general consultant for the congressional campaigns of Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD), Congressman John Sweeney (R-NY), and State Senator Larry Sheahan (R-WA).
As Vice President for Government Affairs at the Russ Reid Company, he was responsible for developing and executing government affairs strategies for clients such as the Tiger Woods Foundation, Salt Lake County (UT), Green River (WY), Nye County (NV), Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Centers, Port Huron Hospital (MI), and Plymouth State University (NH).
As Chief of Staff for Congressman George Nethercutt (R-WA) from 1999 to 2001, Dornan directed all political, administrative, legislative and district office activities for the Congressman. At the time of Dornan's hiring, Nethercutt had a "re-elect" of just 32% due to his breaking of a three term limit pledge he made in 1994 and the subsequent $1.5 million ad campaign run against him by the group, U.S. Term Limits. Dornan took control of all of Nethercutt's political activities and fundraising (direct mail and PAC), and set up the campaign organization from scratch, including grassroots outreach, targeted mail, and contact and coordination with the local, state, and national GOP. As Nethercutt's day-to-day campaign manager and political and media strategist, Dornan was able to steer Nethercutt to a 58% win over well-funded opponents in both the primary and the general.
Dornan's experience also includes a stint as Chief of Staff to Lieutenant Governor John Hager (R-VA), where he prepared Hager for his run for Governor in 1999, campaign manager and press secretary for Ellen Sauerbrey's (R-MD) campaign for Governor in 1998, and running J.C. Watts' (R-OK) first campaign for Congress in 1994. Dornan has also had stints as the Southern Field Director for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and Field Representative for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. His congressional campaign experience includes managing incumbent Congressman Craig James (R-FL) race in 1990 as well as races in Honolulu, Dallas, and Cincinnati.
Dornan's Capitol Hill experience includes three years as Chief of Staff/Legislative Director to Representative Richard Burr (R-NC), Press Secretary to Representative Charles Taylor (R-NC), Legislative Director to Representative Donald Lukens (R-OH), Legislative Assistant to Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) and Legislative Assistant to Representative Wally Herger (R-CA).
Dornan received his B.A. from the Catholic University of America in 1983 with a major in History. He lives in Washington, D.C.
